Agartala, 29th January 2026:   Teachers employed in SPEMM/SPQEM madrasas across the state have raised their voices against long-standing salary disparities and lack of benefits. According to the teachers’ association, despite being engaged in modern education under the Madrasa Modernization Project introduced during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, they are yet to receive facilities equal to those provided to teachers under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

The teachers pointed out that although the state cabinet implemented a revised pay structure in 2016, subsequent increments at the rates of 2.25 and 2.57 have not been enforced. While other government employees have benefitted from these revisions, madrasa teachers remain excluded.

Highlighting their contributions beyond classrooms, the teachers recalled their participation in social initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic, including organizing blood donation camps and contributing to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. They also emphasized their role in deputation duties during teacher shortages in schools.

In this context, the association has urged the state government to ensure equal pay for equal work, bring madrasa teachers under the Grant-in-Aid scheme, fill vacant posts, and implement higher pay scales. They further appealed for the Chief Minister’s earlier assurances to be implemented without delay.
