Agartala, 17th March 2025:   The Pradesh Mahila Congress has announced a protest march in the city on March 29 against the increasing incidents of violence against women under the BJP government. This was stated by Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty during a press conference held today.

Addressing the media, Chakraborty alleged that despite the BJP government’s claims of empowering women under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, crimes against women have significantly risen in both the country and the state. He presented various statistics and reports highlighting the surge in violence against women, citing National Crime Bureau (NCB) data which shows a 28 percent increase in crimes against women in 2024 compared to the previous tenure of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government.”The BJP government repeatedly claims that it is making women self-reliant and prioritizing women’s empowerment. However, the ground reality tells a different story. Incidents of crimes against women are occurring every hour, posing a serious threat to their safety and dignity,” Chakraborty stated.

In response to this alarming situation, the Mahila Congress has decided to take to the streets and hold a protest march on March 29, demanding stricter measures to ensure the protection of women. The party has urged women from all walks of life to participate in the protest and raise their voices against the growing atrocities. The protest is expected to draw significant political attention as opposition parties continue to criticize the BJP-led government over law and order issues, especially concerning women’s safety.
