Agartala, 13th March 2026: The Tripura Commission for Women today organized a district-level Mahila Jan Sunani (Women’s Public Hearing) at the Circuit House on Jail Road, Dharmanagar.
The session was chaired by Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma. Senior officials including ADM P.P.L. Dalong, Rupali Adhikari, DIG (Crime Branch) Muklendu Das, Women’s Police Station OC Shipra Das, and CDPO Panisagar were present.
During the hearing, nine pending complaints and five new cases were formally received. Both parties in the disputes attended, and the proceedings were conducted peacefully.
The initiative aims to ensure swift and effective resolution of women-related grievances, while also providing complainants direct access to district administration and police authorities.
Speaking to reporters, Chairperson Jharna Debbarma emphasized the importance of such hearings: “We have already conducted similar programs in seven districts. These hearings are crucial, as they bring the Commission closer to women at the grassroots. Many complainants face difficulties traveling to Agartala, where our only office is located. By holding hearings in each district, we can listen directly to women’s concerns—whether domestic violence or other forms of exploitation—and work toward solutions.”
The Commission noted that the program is being implemented in line with guidelines from the National Commission for Women, with the broader goal of empowering women and addressing their issues promptly and fairly.
