Agartala, August 19: In a significant breakthrough, Ambassa police successfully apprehended Nandan Rudra Pal, the prime suspect in the FCI godown rice scam at Jaharnagar in Ambassa sub-division, after an exhaustive search that spanned almost three months.

The case, registered as 26/2023 at Ambassa police station, dates back to May 12, 2023, and revolves around allegations that Nandan Rudra Pal misappropriated a substantial quantity of rice, totalling 63,765 kilograms, from the godown. This rice had been designated for distribution to government-affiliated fair price shops and Anganwadi Kendras, raising serious concerns about the diversion of essential food supplies.

On Saturday, the long-awaited arrest of Nandan Rudra Pal took place, marking a significant development in the investigation. Ambassa police promptly initiated an interrogation of the accused, aiming to shed light on the details of the alleged rice scam.

Authorities have indicated that Nandan Rudra Pal will be handed over to the court to face the legal consequences of his actions. This arrest represents a crucial step towards addressing the alleged misappropriation of vital food resources intended for vulnerable populations, such as those reliant on fair price shops and Anganwadi Kendras.
