Agartala, 8th January 2024: In a significant setback, rail services on the Assam-Tripura route have come to a standstill due to a train engine breakdown. The incident took place near Panisagar in Tripura on Sunday night, leading to a complete halt in train movements along the route.
Numerous long-distance trains are now stranded on both ends of the railway, exacerbating the suffering of passengers. As of Monday morning, the Agartala-Arunachal Pradesh Express, Agartala-Karimganj DEMU train, Agartala-bound Humsafar special train, and Dharmanagar-bound local train are among those stuck at various stations along the Assam-Agartala route.
Despite passengers enduring prolonged hours on halted trains, there is a lack of information regarding when normal services will resume. The affected stations, including Kumarghat, Dharmanagar, Badarpur, Karimganj, and New Karimganj, are reporting trains standing idle without any clear communication from the railway department.
Attempts to seek information from station masters and divisional police have been met with silence, leaving thousands of passengers in dire straits. Complaints have surfaced about the lack of timely warnings from the department, intensifying the hardships faced by travelers.
While repair work on the damaged engine is underway, the disruption has severed train services on the Assam-Tripura route. The uncertainty surrounding the restoration of normal operations adds to the distress of the stranded rail passengers.
