Man found dead in apparent suicide at Bishalgarh

Agartala, 1st April 2025:   Tragedy struck the Madhab Tilla area of Kanchanmala No. 1 ward in Golaghati late last night as Tapas Chowdhury, son of Gouranga Chowdhury was found dead in his home. The 40-year-old reportedly took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan, unnoticed by his family members.

The incident came to light when his father Gouranga Chowdhury saw the body and raised an alarm. Neighbors rushed to the house upon hearing his cries, only to find Tapas hanging lifeless. The devastating scene left his wife, daughter and other family members in shock and grief.

Sources close to the family revealed that Tapas had been battling alcohol addiction but had abstained from drinking for the past 10-12 days. Despite appearing normal earlier that day, he reportedly kept to himself before taking the tragic step.

Local residents’ informed Amtali police station, who promptly arrived at the scene. Authorities recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital for an autopsy. The police have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation into the matter. The motive behind the suicide remains unclear.

Tapas Chowdhury is survived by his elderly parents, wife, daughter and brother, who are now grappling with the loss.
