Agartala, 23rd April 2025: In a late-night joint operation, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a drug peddler at Agartala Railway Station and seized over 12 kilograms of ganja.
According to GRP Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, the accused—identified as 28-year-old Tapas Biswas from Madhuban, Kanthaltoli in West Tripura—was caught with 12.280 kilograms of dry ganja packed in two backpacks. Das informed that Biswas had planned to smuggle the contraband to Bengaluru via train.
“A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP Police Station. Preliminary estimates suggest the seized ganja could have fetched nearly Rs 2.5 lakh in the Bengaluru market,” he added.
The accused has been produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
