Agartala, 30th July 2026 : A 35-year-old man was killed after allegedly being run over by a train near Jogendranagar railway station on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Mithun Ghosh, a resident of Vidyasagar. He reportedly ran a stationery and general store at Vidyasagar Chowmuhani along with his brothers. His father is Nantu Ghosh.
According to local residents, the incident occurred at around 11:30 am when a train travelling from Agartala to Silchar passed through the area. Residents claimed that the body remained at the spot for nearly two to two-and-a-half hours before police and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrived.
Locals alleged that despite informing the authorities soon after the incident, there was a significant delay in the arrival of the police. They also claimed that the victim’s family had not been officially informed about the death for several hours.
Residents described Mithun as a businessman who lived with his family and said they were unaware of any personal or family issues that could have led to the incident.
Police and GRP officials later reached the spot and initiated legal formalities. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway to determine whether it was an accident or involved any other factors.
