Agartala, 29th March 2024 :  In a tragic turn of events in Jaruilangbari, a remote village nestled within Tripura’s Khowai district, a husband strangled his wife to death. The incident unfolded amid intoxication, with both individuals reportedly under the influence at the time.

The perpetrator, identified as Surjya Ram Reang, confessed to the crime under pressure from local authorities and residents. He cited his wife’s neglect of household responsibilities and excessive drinking as the catalyst for his actions. Currently hospitalized in Teliamura, Reang faces severe retribution from his community.

The victim, Shanti Rani Debbarma (35), allegedly prioritized alcohol over her duties, triggering conflicts with her husband. According to Reang, the final straw was her failure to prepare meals, leading to a violent altercation resulting in her demise. Police recovered her partially unclothed body near their residence, indicating a tragic end to their dispute.

Both husband and wife were intoxicated when she left the house following an argument, with no effort made to locate her amidst their inebriation. Reang, upon discovering her lifeless body, covered it and revealed that she was found partially exposed. Tragically, the victim, a mother of three from previous marriages, met her untimely end in the throes of alcohol-fueled discord.
