Agartala, 12th October 2023 : Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar strongly criticized the ruling BJP today, accusing them of waging a war against the people. He urged the citizens to stand up against this perceived misrule and work towards revitalizing democracy in the state.
Sarkar, who is also a member of the Politburo, made these remarks while addressing party leaders at the Birchandra Manu Martyr Day event held at Bhanu Ghosh Smriti Bhavan.
“It would be a mistake to think that the situation after 2018 is the same as the situation after 2023. The state, along with the entire country, is undergoing significant changes. Therefore, we must proceed by identifying the existing deficiencies. The family members of those who sacrificed for the party are still within the Left Front. The children from these families should be given leadership positions in the area to foster an environment conducive to progress and lead the team forward. They must pledge to restore democracy. Only then will there be true respect for the martyrs. Otherwise, observing just one day in a year is not a genuine tribute,” he said.
He paid tribute to the martyrs and emphasized that those in leadership positions within various organizational committees of the party should step up first. “They will guide the team’s supporters. You may face opposition for this, but we must stand united with the people. Additionally, we must restore democracy with the involvement of the people,” Sarkar stated.
He pointed out that in the 2023 assembly elections, the BJP only secured 40 percent of the votes. Tipra Motha played a covert role in their victory. “Now, they are launching a full-fledged assault on the people of the state and the entire country. To overcome this, you must step forward with confidence,” he urged.
Meanwhile, former minister and CPIM party leader Badal Chowdhury remarked that the martyrdom of Birchandra Manu triggered a significant reaction across the entire state.”
