Agartala, 29th November 2024: In a bid to spread awareness about the growing threat of HIV-AIDS, a marathon race was organized at Umakanta Mini Stadium here on Friday. The event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and other dignitaries.
Speaking to the media, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar highlighted the significance of the event. “The West Tripura District Red Run Competition was organized by the West Tripura District Health and Family Welfare Society in collaboration with the Tripura State AIDS Society. HIV-AIDS is a major concern as many people are becoming infected due to intravenous drug use. This disease severely weakens the immune system, making awareness crucial to preventing its spread in the state,” Dr. Kumar emphasized.
Mayor Majumdar praised the initiative, stating, “Such events are essential for increasing public awareness about AIDS. It is heartening to see the community come together to support such a vital cause.”
The marathon race aimed to educate the public about the importance of preventing HIV-AIDS and encourage safe practices to reduce the risk of infection. The participation of local leaders underscored the community’s commitment to tackling this public health issue and supporting those affected by the disease.
