Agartala, 11th September 2025:    A special marketing awareness camp was held on September 08 at Arkaneer, a rural technology hub to support women artisans engaged in bamboo jewellery production. The initiative was part of the ‘Sunil Project’ implemented by the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The camp brought together members of self-help groups such as Swapna, Lakshmi, and Pragya, who have been trained in bamboo jewellery-making under NBIRT’s long-standing mission to promote self-reliance among educated youth and women artisans. For over three decades, NBIRT has provided hands-on training, business startup guidance, and continuous support to small-scale entrepreneurs across Tripura.

As part of the Sunil Project, NBIRT had earlier trained 30 women from Charilam in bamboo jewellery craftsmanship and provided them with basic toolkits to launch their businesses. Today, 10 to 12 of these women are running successful ventures inspiring others in the region to join the trade.

The marketing camp focused on enhancing artisans’ understanding of product branding, packaging, labelling, and both online and offline sales strategies. Key speakers included Principal Investigator Dr. Richik Ghosh Thakur and Co-PI Kapil Baran Bhowmik, who emphasized the importance of reaching beauty-conscious consumers and maintaining high product quality.

Participants also showcased a range of handcrafted bamboo, bead and thread jewellery along with bamboo-based utility items such as torch lights, lamp shades and spotlights produced at NBIRT’s Common Facility Centre (CFC). A total of 22 bamboo artisans attended the camp, sharing their business experiences and future plans.
