Agartala, November 01: A devastating fire broke out on Mahesh Smriti Road in Dharmanagar town, reducing ten shops to ashes. The incident occurred at approximately late on yesterday night sending shockwaves through the community.
Four fire engines from Dharmanagar, Kadamtala, and Panisagar sprang into action, racing to the scene in a valiant effort to contain the raging inferno. Despite the intensity of the blaze, the combined efforts of firefighters and local residents managed to bring the situation under control within half an hour.
District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan, District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty, District Administrator Vivek HB, and Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairman Pradyut De Sarkar swiftly arrived at the site to assess the situation and provide support.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the total damage caused by the fire is likely to exceed Rs 20 lakh. District Magistrate assured the affected individuals that the government would assess the situation and extend necessary assistance after consulting with them.
The source of the fire remains a mystery, with authorities considering factors such as electrical short circuit or potential vandalism. The Dharmanagar police station is actively investigating the matter to ascertain the cause.
Among the unfortunate victims whose establishments were gutted in the blaze are Kajal Das, Liton Roy, Ajit Nath, Mintu Deb, Adhir Nath, Sanju Das, and several other traders from the local bazaar.
