Agartala, 23rd May 2025: A devastating fire broke out in Amtala Bazar reducing several shops and houses to ashes. The estimated damage exceeds Rs 50 lakh sparking alarm and concern in the Amtala Bazar area of Kadamtala-Kurti assembly constituency
The blaze reportedly originated in a grocery shop owned by Sab Uddin before spreading rapidly to nearby establishments. The inferno engulfed multiple shops in succession, causing chaos and panic among locals.
Upon receiving the distress call, firefighters from Premtala Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control after an intense hour-long effort. However, residents argue that an earlier response from the fire brigade could have minimized the destruction. Kadamtala police station personnel also arrived at the scene to assist and assess the situation.
Some of the worst-affected businesses include Ziabul Haque’s bicycle and mobile repair shop, Sab Uddin’s grocery shop and computer & Xerox center, Mohammad Abdul Hannan’s clothing and Islamic book store, Suman Chanda’s hair-cutting salon, Rashid Ahmed’s NN Medical shop, Mehebur Rahman’s wholesale huggies and pamper shop, Nur Ahmed’s grocery shop, Abdul Mulib Mia’s vegetable stall and Gias Uddin’s grocery shop. While some establishments were completely reduced to ashes, others suffered significant damage, leaving shop owners devastated.
While some shops were completely destroyed, others suffered extensive damage. Traders expressed deep distress, stating that their only source of livelihood has been wiped out. They are now urging the government for immediate compensation to rebuild their businesses.
