Agartala, 31st August 2026 : A joint team of police and security personnel seized a massive consignment of dry ganja weighing 777.6 kg during a late-night operation at Matinagar Uttar Para under Sonamura Police Station.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a large quantity of narcotic substances in the area.
A team comprising personnel from Sonamura Police Station, 81 Battalion BSF and 11th Battalion TSR conducted a search in the field-side area of Matinagar Uttar Para. During the operation, the team recovered 777 kg 600 grams of dry ganja stored in 29 plastic drums of different sizes.
No individual was found at the site to claim ownership of the consignment. Following all prescribed legal procedures, the entire quantity was seized as unclaimed.
Police have subsequently launched an investigation to identify the persons involved in storing the contraband and determine the intended destination of the huge consignment.
The seized ganja has an estimated market value of approximately Rs 15.05 crore, according to police.
The seizure marks another significant operation by the law-enforcement and security agencies against the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances in the Sonamura area.
