Agartala, 31st August 2026 : A faction of former insurgents in Tripura has threatened to launch a 72-hour transport strike from September 4, citing the alleged non-implementation of several assurances and long-pending demands.
The group claimed that despite repeated appeals to the authorities, many of their issues remain unresolved. Frustrated by the lack of a satisfactory response, they have decided to intensify their movement through the proposed transport shutdown.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, reacting to the development, stressed the importance of maintaining peace and law and order in the state. He also emphasized that the grievances could be addressed through dialogue and discussions.
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said the government should take concrete steps to resolve the former insurgents’ long-standing demands. He also cautioned that any agitation should not disrupt the normal lives of the people.
Minister Bikash Debbarma said the government was engaging with the concerned groups and monitoring the situation.
The proposed strike has sparked concern over possible disruption to passenger and goods transportation. Attention is now focused on whether dialogue can avert the shutdown before September 4.
