Agartala, 5th June 2025 :  To mark World Environment Day, a large-scale tree plantation programme was launched today at the campus of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College. The initiative, jointly organized by Positive Barta and the college authorities, drew vibrant participation from the academic community and a strong contingent of local women entrepreneurs.

The event was not just about planting saplings—it served as the official launch of a year-long environmental protection campaign aiming to plant 1 crore trees across India, with plantations timed to align with regional climates. Organizers stressed that the mission seeks to instill a lasting emotional bond between people and nature, while promoting long-term ecological sustainability.

College President and founder of Positive Barta, Malay Pit, inaugurated the programme, alongside several dignitaries including Principal Prof. Dr. Sanjay Nath, Dean Prof. Dr. Bhupesh Shil, Prof. Dr. Swapan Sarkar, Prof. Dr. Tanuja Bhattacharya, and Prof. Dr. Deepak Kumar Daha. In their addresses, speakers underscored the urgent need for widespread environmental awareness and highlighted the critical role that communities, institutions, and individuals must play in combating climate change.

A standout feature of the programme was the proactive engagement of women entrepreneurs, who have pledged to plant one lakh trees across Tripura over the next year. Today’s event marked the beginning of that commitment, with plans to plant around 3,000 saplings in the vicinity of the college in the coming days through collaborative efforts involving students and community members.

Speaking on the occasion, Malay Pit emphasized the vision behind the campaign: “This isn’t just a plantation drive—it’s a national movement. We aim to plant 10 million trees across West Bengal and Tripura in the next year, selecting appropriate planting seasons to ensure healthy growth. Trees are not just greenery—they’re life. Oxygen, shade, and a cleaner environment are our collective responsibility.”

He further praised the role of women entrepreneurs in the state, calling their dedication “inspiring and exemplary.” “Their leadership in this environmental mission sets a precedent for grassroots involvement and long-term care of our green spaces,” he said.

The initiative has been hailed as more than symbolic—it reflects a deeper push towards sustainable living and community-led ecological stewardship. With strong grassroots support and institutional backing, the drive aspires to inspire a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
