Mayor Announces Installation of Modern Electric Furnace at Chinaihani Crematorium

Agartala, 9th June 2026:  Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Deepak Majumder has announced another major step toward the modernization of Chinaihani Mahashmashan, located under the Barjala Assembly Constituency. A state-of-the-art electric crematorium furnace will be installed at the cremation ground within the next three months at an estimated cost of ₹1.25 crore.

The announcement was made by the Mayor during the inauguration of the beautification project at Chinaihani Mahashmashan on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Majumder said that AMC has undertaken several initiatives to improve and modernize the infrastructure of one of the capital city’s most important cremation grounds. He informed that nearly ₹20 lakh has already been spent on beautification works, including environmental improvement, cleanliness drives, seating arrangements, and the development of other essential facilities within the premises.

The Mayor further stated that additional development projects will be implemented in the future to enhance the overall infrastructure of the cremation ground.

Highlighting the benefits of the new facility, Majumder said that the electric crematorium furnace would make the cremation process faster, more efficient, environmentally friendly, and modern. It is also expected to significantly reduce inconvenience for the public. He added that the project is being undertaken in response to a long-standing demand from city residents.

The event was attended by local public representatives, senior AMC officials, and prominent members of the community. The guests welcomed the development initiatives and urged the authorities to complete the installation of the electric furnace at the earliest.

According to local residents, the installation of the electric crematorium furnace and the ongoing beautification project will transform Chinaihani Mahashmashan into a modern and well-equipped cremation facility, greatly benefiting people living in and around the capital city.
