Mayor tables Rs 397 Crore Budget for Agartala’s Development in 2023-24 Fiscal

Agartala, 4th August 2023 : Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumdar, today tabled the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24, estimating a total expenditure of Rs 397 crore.

The budget, presented at the AMC head office, aims to cater to the overall development of the city and provide essential amenities and facilities for its residents.

Mayor said out of the total budget, Rs 55.22 lakh is deficit expenditure. Mayor Majumdar emphasized that efforts will be made to bridge this shortfall through various tax measures.

In comparison to previous financial years, the estimated income for the current financial year has shown a rise.

“In 2021-22, the projected income was Rs 244.77 crore, while in 2022-23, it reached Rs 366 crore. For the financial year 2023-24, the estimated income stands at Rs 396 crore, resulting in a deficit of Rs 55 lakh between income and expenditure”, he said.

He said that the budget is set to be officially accepted on August 10th, in the presence of corporators.

Notably, participants in the freedom movement or the families of martyrs residing in Agartala city will receive a 10 percent tax exemption.

Furthermore, he has announced the implementation of the “Meri Mitti Mere Desh” project, scheduled from August 16 to August 20. The official inauguration will take place on August 14 at Agartala Elbert Club. The event will showcase the inspiring story of Bangladesh’s liberation war.

As part of the project, flags will be hoisted in all wards, and soil will be collected from water bodies or nearby ward offices. The main function of this initiative will be held at Elbert Ekka Park, where freedom fighters, defense personnel, state police, and families of martyrs will be honored.

Another noteworthy aspect of the budget includes the “Vasudha Bandan” initiative, which involves planting 75 trees in a designated area of Albert, with distribution managed by the forest department.
