Agartala, 21st April 2024:   Mayor Dipak Majumder along with other officials visited fire affected Durga Chowmuhani bazar, and assured all kind of help.

On the night 7-Ramnagar assembly elections, a calamitous incident struck the Road No. 9 area adjacent to Durga Chowmuhani Bazar, as 22 shops fell victim to a mysterious blaze. The conflagration was discovered by a vigilant policeman on duty at Naka Point, who promptly alerted the fire department.

Responding swiftly, seven to eight fire engines rushed to the scene and battled the inferno, eventually bringing it under control. However, the damage had already been done, with local traders facing substantial losses due to the destruction of their establishments.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the administrative authorities, including the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumdar, were unable to visit the site on the following day due to the heightened activity surrounding the elections. However, on Sunday morning, the mayor along with officials from the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office and the administrative team, visited the affected area to assess the situation.

Interacting with the impacted traders, the mayor expressed solidarity and empathy, stating that on April 18, around half-past one, the devastating fire had ravaged the 22 shops.

He assured the affected traders that temporary arrangements would be made to facilitate their business operations elsewhere, while also considering the feasibility of establishing a permanent market at the site for their benefit.

Furthermore, Mayor Majumder pledged administrative cooperation in accordance with established rules to support the affected traders in their recovery efforts.
