Agartala, 4th June 2024:   Rajib Debnath, the bodyguard of MDC Sanjib Reang from Kalsi ADC Village has confessed to causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place near Shani Mandir in the market area, where Debnath was allegedly intoxicated and was involved in a bike accident.

Witnesses claim that Debnath, who was attending a funeral, is frequently seen in an inebriated state. Following the initial accident, locals reportedly retrieved Debnath from a nearby forest. Despite this, he attempted to leave on his bike once more, leading to a second accident near the Birchandra Manu zonal office, where he lost control and crashed into a power pole. This second crash resulted in a broken leg for Debnath.

Eyewitnesses noted that Debnath was carrying a service revolver at the time of the accident, raising concerns about his behavior while on duty. Questions have been raised by the local community about why Debnath had his service weapon with him, especially since his duty station for the day was over.

Upon receiving news of the incident, police from the Manpathar outpost arrived at the scene, rescued Debnath and shifted him for medical treatment. The incident has sparked debate over the conduct and oversight of bodyguards, with many awaiting the department’s response and potential disciplinary actions.
