Agartala, 3rd April 2026: Air travel between Bagdogra and Agartala was disrupted this afternoon after an Air India Express flight encountered a mechanical fault moments before departure.
The incident occurred at Bagdogra Airport, located 16 km from Siliguri and serving North Bengal passengers. The airport is a key hub, connecting Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Tripura and other destinations.
According to reports, Flight IX-2892, scheduled to depart at 12:35 p.m. for Agartala, suffered an engine shutdown after passengers had boarded. A total of 81 passengers were on board.
Witnesses said the aircraft crew kept passengers seated for nearly 90 minutes as technicians attempted to resolve the issue. During this time, the air-conditioning system remained off, leading to discomfort and oxygen problems inside the cabin.
As tensions rose, frustrated passengers demanded clarity. Airline staff eventually informed them that no alternative flight could be arranged.
