Melaghar man dies in bike accident, months after son’s death

Agartala, January 31: A Melaghar man, who lost his son in an electrical short circuit eight months ago, succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a speeding bike near Indira Nagar Sardar Bari Masjid on Sonamura Main Road.

Ali Shafiq, 45, was rushed to Melaghar hospital by local people, who witnessed the accident on Friday. As his condition was critical, he was referred to Agartala GBP hospital, where he breathed his last on Wednesday.

His death has plunged his family and the entire area into mourning. His wife and other relatives are still struggling to cope with the loss of his son, who died in a fire caused by a faulty wire in their house in July last year. “God’s pastimes are very difficult,” said a neighbour, who expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
