By TC News Desk

Agartala, January 31: A special discussion and quiz competition on national road safety was held at Ardhendu Bhattacharya Memorial Hall in Dharmanagar on Wednesday, as part of the National Defense Day celebrations. The event was aimed at raising awareness among the public about the increasing number of accidents in the state and the country, and the importance of following traffic rules.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Uttar Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Bhabatosh Das, who inaugurated the event, Bagbassa MLA Yadav Lal Debnath, who was the chief guest, Manju Nath, Vice-Chairman of Dharmanagar Municipal Council, who presided over the event, Additional District Magistrate Biplab Das, Additional Superintendent of Police Jeremy Daylong, District Transport Officer Manoj Debbarma, District Education Officer Sukhmoy Nath, and the leaders of various vehicle drivers’ organizations. The guests were welcomed by Seema Welfare Society.

In his speech, Bhabatosh Das urged everyone to be careful about road safety and to abide by the traffic laws that are made for the safety of people. He also advised the rickshaw drivers to follow the rules and the drivers to refrain from illegal parking. He said that even though the roads in the city have been widened with the efforts of the Dharmanagar council and MLA, it is still difficult to manage the traffic unless everyone cooperates. He also encouraged the students present at the event to carry the message of road safety to their families and friends and to take the responsibility of spreading awareness.

Yadav Lal Debnath expressed his regret that more car owners and drivers were not invited to the event, as they could have benefited from the awareness program. He said that wearing a helmet and a seat belt is not for avoiding the police, but for their own safety. He also praised North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty as the best among the eight Superintendents of Police in the state, for his efforts to protect the people from accidents. He said that the police superintendent is working differently from others and deserves appreciation.

The other guests also spoke about the need to reduce the accidents that are mostly caused by the youth’s over-speeding and drunken driving. They appealed to the public to be more responsible and cautious while driving and to respect the lives of others.

The event also featured a quiz competition on national road safety, in which the students participated enthusiastically. The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the organizers.
