Agartala, 13th May 2026: The Rupai Cherra MGNREGA Employees’ Welfare Association has submitted a five-point memorandum to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rupaicherra RD Block, Pritam Debnath, demanding job regularization and salary revision. The deputation was handed over on Wednesday by the block cell committee of the association.
According to the memorandum, signed by Hiron Tripura and Girish Chandra Reang, workers have been serving with dedication since 2007 but continue to face financial hardship. They argued that with families of 5–6 members, the current pay structure is inadequate to sustain livelihoods. While the government revised salaries for graduates and diploma holders in December 2012, undergraduates were left out, creating disparity among employees performing similar duties.
The five demands highlighted in the memorandum include job regularization, with all MGNREGA workers to be made permanent from their date of joining; salary revision by merging MGNREGA and Panchayat-sponsored schemes to introduce a revised pay structure; an increment hike by raising the annual increment from 3% to 5%; fixing the retirement age of MGNREGA workers at a minimum of 65 years; and extending dearness allowance benefits to MGNREGA workers whenever announced for government employees.
The association stressed the principle of “equal pay for equal work” and urged the government to ensure parity across posts. They noted that despite contributing significantly to rural development, workers continue to live in economic uncertainty.
BDO Pritam Debnath accepted the deputation and assured that the matter would be forwarded to higher authorities for consideration.
