Michael Madhusudhan Dutta College, Sabroom celebrates World Statistics Day

Agartala, 17th October 2025:   Michael Madhusudhan Dutta(MMD) College, Sabroom celebrated World  Statistics Day today. Every five years, on October 20th, countries around the world observe this day by reviewing and analyzing official statistical data to highlight its significance. The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Good Quality Statistics and Data for All.”

The first World Statistics Day was observed in 2010, honoring the importance of sustainable development.  The event was attended by the college principal, Dr. Anupam Guha, along with retired faculty member from the Commerce Department, Pranjit Roy, Head of the Education Department, Dr. Mahua Chowdhury, and students.

During the program, Roy discussed fundamental concepts related to statistics and emphasized its importance. Dr. Chowdhury highlighted that the significance of statistical knowledge is undeniable, especially because any matter related to expenditure is connected to statistics. It is essential for everyone to understand at least the basic principles.

Principal Dr. Guha mentioned that currently, artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in collecting and providing statistical data. Although the importance of data and analysis has increased and become more accessible, awareness and understanding are still necessary. He urged the students to be conscious and focus on enhancing their skills through studying.
