Agartala, 17th October 2025: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police have seized a massive consignment of banned cough syrup worth over Rs 2 crore during a coordinated multi-agency operation.
According to a press release, the operation involved the Government Railway Police (GRP), West District Police, Customs Department, and Special Task Force (STF). Authorities recovered 90,000 bottles of Escuf Cough Syrup (100 ml each, containing Codeine Phosphate) from two goods train wagons, numbered 31032457043 and 30030010892, stationed at Jirania Railway Station in West Tripura.
The operation began on October 16 around 4:30 PM and continued overnight, concluding in the early hours of October 17. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 2 crore.
A case has been registered at Agartala GRPS under Case No. 104/2025, dated 17/10/2025, under Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals and networks involved in this illegal trafficking operation.
“Tripura Police, in collaboration with other enforcement agencies, remains steadfast in its efforts to curb narcotics trafficking and protect the youth from drug abuse,” the statement added, reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related crimes.
