Minister Kishor Barman Unveils NLU Tripura’s Report Supporting 480 GPs/VCs for GPDP 2024–2025

Agartala, 26th September 2025 :  The National Law University, Tripura released its Comprehensive Project Report on Handholding Support to 480 Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Village Committees (VCs) in Tripura for the preparation of the Theme-Based Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) 2024–2025, commissioned by the Department of Rural Development (Panchayat), Government of Tripura. The report was formally released by Kishor Barman, Minister of Panchayat & Higher Education, Government of Tripura, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the esteemed presence of Prasun De, Director, RD Panchayats, Government of Tripura, and Animesh Debbarma, Director, Higher Education, Government of Tripura.

In his address, Barman highlighted the significance of rural development in Tripura, emphasizing the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat in a diverse state like Tripura. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the NLU Tripura team and Panchayat representatives for the exceptional outcome of the project and stressed the importance of strengthening Panchayat institutions for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Prasun De highlighted the historic MoU signed between NLU Tripura and the Directorate of RD Panchayats, observing that NLU Tripura is the first educational institution in the country to formalize such an MoU with a Panchayat body, an initiative unique in its kind. He noted that the University’s intervention contributed significantly to achieving remarkable results and expressed his sincere gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire team.

In Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Tripura, spotlighted the University’s outreach and social engagement through initiatives such as the School-Connect Programme, Legal Aid Services, and Capacity-Building Workshops. He noted that the handholding support to Panchayats under this project was part of these wider social initiatives. Prof. Singh also presented the report’s key findings, outlining achievements, challenges faced, and recommendations for the future.

The report captures the methodology, capacity-building initiatives, innovative practices, and community-driven approaches that ensured participatory rural development planning.

On this occasion, NLU Tripura, through the Minister Barman also handed over appointment letters to the newly recruited non-teaching staff of the University.

The event was attended by Panchayat representatives, government officials, faculty members, staff, and students of NLU Tripura, and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar, NLU Tripura.
