Agartala, 10th March 2026:  A day labourer was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon following a dispute over just Rs 30 in the Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district, triggering tension in the area.

The injured worker is currently undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.

The incident took place in the Bhoter Bazar area under Samrurpar Gram Panchayat in Kailashahar subdivision. The injured labourer has been identified as Pradip Shukla Baidya, a resident of Bhodrapalli in Ward No. 6 of Samrurpar Gram Panchayat under Chandipur block.

He earns his livelihood through daily wage labour and supports his wife and two children.

According to his wife Champa Shukla Baidya, Pradip was returning home after work as usual when the incident occurred.

When he reached near the Bhadreshwari Kali Temple in Bhoter Bazar, a local resident, Bidyut Malakar, allegedly stopped him on the road.Reports say Malakar had lent Pradip Rs 30 earlier. An argument reportedly broke out between the two over the repayment of the money.

Pradip allegedly told him that he did not have the money at that moment and would repay it the next day.

However, the accused allegedly attacked him from behind with a sharp weapon, striking his head. The blow caused a deep head injury and heavy bleeding.

In a desperate attempt to save his life, the injured labourer reportedly took shelter at the house of the village head nearby.

However, the family alleges that he did not receive any assistance there and was instead sent back home.  Later, family members rushed to the spot after receiving the news. Despite tying cloth around his head with four towels, they were unable to stop the bleeding, his wife said.

With the help of locals, the family informed the fire and emergency services. Personnel quickly arrived at the scene and transported Pradip to Unakoti District Hospital.

Hospital sources said he received five stitches on his head. He is reportedly unable to speak properly or eat and remains in a critical condition.
