MMD College, Sabroom holds 2-day special seminar on yoga practice & Sanskrit knowledge

Agartala, 20th June 2025:  Department of Physical Education and Sanskrit of the Michael Madhusudhan Dutta (MMD) College, with financial support from the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi inaugurated jointly a two-days seminar titled “The Impact of Sanskrit Knowledge on Yoga, Wellness  and Overall Development” on June 20-21, 2025. The formal opening of the seminar took place today at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of MMD College, highlighting the significance of integrating the soul and Sanskrit literature, especially in celebration of the upcoming International Yoga Day on June 21.

The event commenced with a guest reception, watering of green samplings, lighting of lamp, and inaugural Song. Dr. Tapan Shil, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit, delivered the welcome speech. The opening ceremony was graced by Professor M.P. Narasingha Raju, Vice-Chancellor of Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University, Sabroom who emphasized the importance of Yoga Day and the overall significance of this seminar. The keynote speaker was Professor Sudip Das, Head of the Department of Physical Education of Tripura University (Central), who discussed the relevance of combining physical education and Sanskrit literature in modern society and urged everyone to engage regularly in yoga practice.

The inaugural session also featured a felicitation of Rathindra Kumar Roy, an international gymnast trainer, recognizing his contributions to the sports world. Distinguished speakers included Professor Debraj Panigrahi, Head of the Sanskrit Department of Tripura University(Central), who spoke on “The Role of Sanskrit Knowledge to understand Yoga Sutra,” Dr. Sucharita Chowdhury, former Associate Professor of Philosophy of  MMD College, who discussed ” Philosophical Aspects of Life,” and Dr. Sanjib Kumar Bhowmik , Associate Professor , Department of Physical Education of  Tripura University(Central), who elaborated on “Yoga: Wellness and Harmonious Development.”

The session was chaired by Dr. Anupam Guha, principal of MMD College. The students’ participation were remarkable. Dr. Dipankar Deb, Secretary, Teachers’ Council expressed gratitude to all participants. At the end of the first day, Dr. Mukesh Mitra, Associate Professor of Physical Education of MMD College, summarized the overall discussion. The second day will feature activities related to yoga practice and the significance of Yoga Day, as announced by the college authority.
