Agartala, 12th November 2025 : A violent mob attack late last night has triggered widespread alarm in Dharmanagar’s Durgapur area, after a group of masked miscreants allegedly stormed the residence of Sonali Shibir Club member Shipon Chowdhury.
Local sources and a statement from Chowdhury’s elderly mother, who was present during the incident stated, around 50 to 60 individuals led by a man identified as Hafiz arrived at the house around 9 p.m. with their faces covered. Armed with sharp weapons, the group reportedly attempted to break down the front door. Chowdhury’s mother managed to lock herself inside and escape physical harm.
The attackers then vandalized the property, damaging doors, windows, and electronic appliances. Before fleeing, they allegedly set fire to a motorcycle parked in the courtyard. The commotion drew a crowd of over a hundred residents near the Dharmanagar railway crossing, prompting the assailants to disperse.
Further allegations suggest the attackers snatched a gold chain and bangles from Chowdhury’s mother. Locals claim to have identified several individuals involved in the assault, including Hafiz, who is reportedly linked to narcotics trade and has faced previous accusations.
The incident has left the neighborhood shaken. Dharmanagar police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation. Residents are demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for those responsible, warning that unchecked violence threatens public safety.
