Agartala, 15th October 2024: A mobile shop owner, identified as Shankar Saha, was seriously injured in a knife attack today evening in the Melarmath area. The incident has raised concerns about safety in the city, prompting public outcry and questions regarding security measures.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident unfolded when an unidentified man entered Saha’s mobile phone shop and began verbally abusing him over a monetary dispute. Saha, who was seated at the time, confronted the assailant. Shortly after, the attacker retreated to the balcony, and as Saha stepped outside to investigate, the assailant lunged at him with a sharp knife.
Saha sustained injuries to his head and stomach and collapsed at the scene in a pool of blood. Bystanders quickly apprehended the attacker, who also suffered injuries during the confrontation, and both were transported to the hospital by police.
West Agartala police responded promptly to the scene and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar stated, “We received information that the owner of a mobile store had come under a sharp knife attack. When police rushed to the spot, we found the owner with serious bleeding injuries. We have rushed him to IGM Hospital as his condition is critical. The accused entered the shop intending to buy something, but after a heated altercation over money, he attacked the owner with a knife. Later, locals apprehended the accused, who is also in critical condition and currently in the hospital.”
