Modi travels for Adani-Ambani, not the nation: Sudip Roy Barman slams PM at protest

Agartala, 30th August 2025:   Pradesh Congress today staged a protest march and public meeting in Agartala, as part of a nationwide campaign against alleged electoral fraud. The demonstration, announced earlier by the state unit, was halted by police near Buddha Mandir, where barricades were set up to prevent the procession from advancing. In response, Congress leaders held a protest meeting at the site.

Senior Congress figures including state in-charge Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, All India Congress Committee secretary Christopher Tilak, Tripura Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Birajit Sinha, and other party leaders were present.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Sudip Roy Barman launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of prioritizing corporate interests over public welfare. “The Prime Minister is spending crores of public money on foreign tours not for the nation’s benefit, but for the interests of Adani and Ambani,” Barman alleged. He further claimed that national assets and profitable public sector enterprises were being handed over to private conglomerates.

Barman criticized the government’s handling of poverty and hunger, citing distressing incidents in Tripura where families were allegedly forced to sell their children due to economic hardship. “The cries and tears of the people have no value under this regime,” he said, describing the current administration as a “loot raj.”

He also condemned the BJP-led government for allegedly manipulating the electoral process and suppressing dissent. “The people made a grave mistake by entrusting a ‘chowkidar’ with the nation’s leadership,” Barman said, referencing the BJP’s 2014 campaign slogan. He accused corporate and political forces of orchestrating a smear campaign against Congress prior to the 2014 elections, claiming the party was targeted for its pro-poor policies.

Highlighting Congress’s legacy, Barman pointed to initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, free education and healthcare, the Forest Rights Act, and the Food Security Act—programs he said are being dismantled under the current government.

“If Modi had truly won through a fair mandate, he would have listened to the people’s pain,” Barman asserted, calling the victory a result of electoral manipulation. He urged citizens to resist fear and continue the fight for constitutional rights.

Barman also criticized cadre-based political parties for ignoring public sentiment, contrasting them with Congress, which he described as a non-cadre party committed to democratic values. “If the country and the state are to find the right direction, it must be through constitutional rights—and Congress is the only alternative,” he declared.
