Mother poison sons to death, kills self in Khowai

Agartala: September 28. In a shocking and heart-wrenching turn of events, a 37-year old mother poisoned her two young sons before taking her own life on Wednesday night in Kamala Bagan village under Khowai district of Tripura.

Police sources said that the incident unfolded when Manu Munda, a daily laborer and the father of the two deceased boys, went to a neighbor’s house to watch TV on Wednesday afternoon.

“As the evening progressed, a sudden power outage prompted him to return home to rest. It was then that his 10-year-old son, Parimal Munda, unexpectedly attacked him. Parimal began exhibiting alarming symptoms, foaming at the mouth and convulsing. Shortly after, another son Monesh Munda (12) displayed similar distressing signs”, said Police.

Police said that soon after the incident Manu started screaming and informed the neighbors who rushed to the spot and also found Pramila Munda, the mother in the same dire condition.The villagers acted swiftly and rushed Pramila and her two sons to the Behalabari Primary Health Center in critical condition.“Tragically, Pramila and her son Parimal succumbed to the poison. While Monesh Munda, the surviving son, was referred from Behala Bari Primary Health Center to Khowai District Hospital at 12:30 on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, despite the valiant efforts of medical staff, Monesh’s life could not be saved, and he died at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala ”, said the police.

Police later said, investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the extreme step.Manu Munda claimed that his elder son, Monesh said that their mother had administered a lethal concoction in their water, before consuming it herself.
