MP Biplab Deb Returns to Tripura in New Role, Calls for Stronger Grassroots Connect

Date:

Agartala, 30th August 2026 : Newly appointed BJP National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday called upon party workers in Tripura to strengthen their grassroots connect and maintain unity, saying that direct engagement with people would be crucial for the party’s continued political growth.

Deb was felicitated by the Tripura BJP in Agartala following his appointment as an All India General Secretary. Thousands of party workers and supporters gathered at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to welcome him on his arrival in the state after taking charge of his new organisational responsibility.

Addressing the felicitation programme, Deb said he had never believed in factionalism or groupism and urged BJP workers to work collectively. “Biplab Deb never believes in groupism. If the BJP believed in such things, the party could never have won elections and formed the government,” he said, calling for greater coordination among party workers.

Emphasising grassroots outreach, Deb asked every BJP worker to visit at least five households every day and interact directly with residents.

“Every party worker should visit at least five houses every day. Only then will the people of Tripura be happy. People want this,” he said.

Deb said that staying connected with ordinary citizens would help party workers understand their problems and address their concerns more effectively. He also stressed that public representatives and organisational workers should remain accessible to the people.

“Fear is not the measure of success. Earning the respect and blessings of the people is the real sign of a successful worker,” Deb said.

Reflecting on his political journey, Deb said the people of Tripura and BJP workers had played a central role in his rise from a grassroots worker to Chief Minister, MLA, Lok Sabha MP and now National General Secretary of the BJP.“The soil of Tripura has given me a lot. From Chief Minister, MLA, Lok Sabha MP to the All India General Secretary of the party, the people of Tripura and BJP workers have contributed to everything,” he said.

Deb also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the efforts of grassroots workers for the BJP’s expansion in Tripura. He said the party’s organisational presence grew steadily after the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre in 2014, eventually paving the way for the formation of the BJP government in Tripura in 2018.Taking a sharp political swipe at the CPI(M), which governed Tripura for over 25 years, Deb said the party had lost its political relevance and would not return to power in the state.

He argued that the presence of an effective opposition was important for ensuring accountability and better performance by the ruling party.

“An opposition party is necessary so that the ruling party will work more,” Deb said.

Deb also recalled his early organisational work in Tripura and said he never imagined that he would eventually rise to the national leadership of the BJP.Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, speaking at the programme, described Deb’s appointment as BJP National General Secretary as a matter of pride for Tripura.

Saha said Deb’s journey from the grassroots to a key national organisational position reflected the contribution of BJP workers and the growth of the party organisation in the state.

The Chief Minister recalled Deb’s arrival in Tripura in 2015 and his efforts to strengthen the BJP organisation by assigning responsibilities to workers at the grassroots level. He said the expansion of the party network subsequently brought a change in the state’s political landscape.

The programme was attended by BJP state president Abhishek Debroy, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, ministers, MLAs, senior party leaders and a large number of BJP workers and supporters.
