Agartala, 17th August 2026 : Former Tripura Chief Minister and West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has been appointed a National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, bringing a major organisational responsibility to one of the party’s prominent leaders from the Northeast.
The announcement has been welcomed by the BJP’s Tripura unit, with party leaders and workers congratulating Deb and expressing confidence that his organisational experience will benefit the party at the national level.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha congratulated Deb and said his long administrative experience and understanding of grassroots-level organisation would help further strengthen the BJP’s organisational network across the country. He also conveyed his best wishes to all the newly appointed national office-bearers of the party.
Deb has been credited with playing an important role in building and expanding the BJP’s organisational base in Tripura. His elevation to the post of National General Secretary is expected to give the state greater representation in the party’s national organisational structure.
BJP leaders and workers expressed hope that Deb would take forward his new responsibilities with dedication and contribute to strengthening the party across different states.
Dr. Saha said the newly constituted team of experienced and energetic leaders, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of BJP National President Nitin Nabin, would work to further energise the party’s grassroots workforce and consolidate its organisational strength.
He said the team would also contribute towards advancing the BJP’s broader vision of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
The appointment marks another important organisational role for Deb at the national level after his tenure as Tripura Chief Minister and his continued work as an elected representative of the state.
