Pradyot puts Tiprasa Accord at Centre of alliance debate, warns of ‘next course of action’

Date:

Agartala, 17th August 2026 :   Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has reiterated that implementation of the Tiprasa Accord is the key issue guiding his party’s political decisions, while indicating that the party could reconsider its course if the agreement is not implemented.

Pradyot made the remarks after returning to Agartala from New Delhi, where he met BJP national president Nitin Nabin, organisational secretary B.L. Santosh and Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra.

Explaining the purpose of his recent Delhi meetings, Pradyot said he had been away from Tripura due to personal treatment and felt the need to communicate recent developments and concerns directly to his party.

He said the Tiprasa Accord was the only substantive issue discussed during his interaction with the BJP leadership. According to Pradyot, his responsibility was not merely to seek positions or benefits for elected representatives and senior party leaders, but to secure the rights of the wider Tiprasa population.

“If I ask for something for my MDCs, MLAs and a few leaders, and don’t ask for anything for my people who brought us to this position, then I have no right to call myself ‘Bubagra’,” he said.

Pradyot said he holds Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in high regard, but stressed that this would not prevent him from taking a different political path if the accord remained unimplemented.

He also recalled the political tensions surrounding the TTAADC election and alleged attempts to weaken Tipra Motha. Despite those developments, he said he was prepared to put the past behind him if the constitutional rights of the Tiprasa people were addressed.

Rejecting what he described as measures benefiting only a limited number of leaders, Pradyot said appointments, ministerial positions or one-time financial packages would not resolve the concerns of the wider community.

“I haven’t come for money. Give my people their rights, otherwise I will go my own way,” he said.
