Agartala, 23rd September 2025: In a bid to assess the effective delivery of central and state government welfare schemes, Former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb visited the homes of two tribal beneficiaries at Jirania today. The visit focused on evaluating the impact of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which aims to promote solar-powered irrigation solutions for farmers.
During his interaction with beneficiaries at Bishram Bari and West Barjala in Jirania, Deb learned that under the PM-KUSUM initiative, farmers have installed two solar-powered 2-horsepower pumps for irrigation. The total cost of installation amounted to Rs 3 lakh, of which farmers contributed only Rs 15,000 with the remaining amount covered through government subsidies. Beneficiaries shared with the MP that the scheme has significantly boosted both agricultural productivity and income, especially during dry spells when access to water is critical.
Later in the day, as part of the week-long ‘Seva Pakshik’ campaign commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Deb attended a clothing distribution drive organized by the BJP Sadar Rural District unit in Chanmari. The event saw a large turnout of women from the local community.
Continuing his outreach, Deb engaged with traders at the Narsingarh market to discuss the benefits of the next-generation GST reforms announced by Prime Minister Modi during Independence Day. He highlighted how the reforms are designed to support farmers, small business owners, women, youth, and entrepreneurs across the country. To raise awareness, Deb distributed informative leaflets on GST reforms and presented roses to shopkeepers, encouraging dialogue and understanding of the new measures.
