Agartala, 12th October 2023: Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb participated in the Parliamentary Forum on LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) at Jessobhoomi in Delhi on Thursday and urged people to adopt a lifestyle that is conducive to the environment. He also thanked Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar for nominating him for the session at the P20 Summit.
The P20 Summit is a meeting of the parliamentary speakers of the G-20 countries, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Deb said on social media that India’s leadership in global action under Modi will play a special role in accelerating global mass movements through this initiative.
In his speech, Deb said that respect for nature and protection of nature is the soul of Indian culture, which believes in the theory that ‘God resides in plants’. He also quoted India’s national anthem, composed by poet Rabindranath Tagore, which mentions ‘Vindhya, Himachal, Yamuna, Ganga’ as symbols of the country’s diversity and unity.
He said that Mission Life – Lifestyle for Environment Campaign was proposed by Modi at the COP-26 summit held in 2021, to connect the whole world in the context of climate change. He said that everyone’s lifestyle has a big role to play in combating climate change and establishing a circular economy instead of a use-and-waste economy.
He also referred to his private member’s bill, which aims to teach mission life in the country’s schools. He said that when the future generations are informed about mission life through school level education, they will develop thoughts and mentality for its welfare.
The P20 Summit, with the spirit of ‘Vasudhiva Kutumbkam – One Earth, One Family, One Future’, will focus on providing consensus-based solutions to complex global issues. Apart from 20 countries, 10 other countries and international organizations will participate in this conference.
