Agartala, 22nd April 2025: Tripura’s Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday to press for major upgrades in the state’s railway infrastructure.
In a social media post, Deb said the discussion covered a wide range of issues, including infrastructure development, modernisation, double-laning, and extension of railway lines within the state.
Key proposals included the double-laning of the Lumding-Sabroom and Agartala-Sabroom sections, introduction of electric trains, and extending the Vande Bharat Express service up to Guwahati.
Deb also urged the Railway Minister to consider launching new long-distance trains connecting Agartala with Jammu, Puri, and Gaya.He further pushed for modernisation of key stations such as Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Transforming Agartala Railway Station into a world-class facility, developing an industrial rail link, upgrading Jirania Yard, and adding more rail services were also on the agenda.
Following the meeting, Deb said the Union Minister acknowledged the importance of the proposals and assured prompt action on a priority basis.
