Agartala, 8th April 2026: A wave of shock and tension has gripped the Chandpur area under Laxminagar Gram Panchayat in North Tripura following the mysterious death of a minor with disabilities, whose body was recovered from a remote water body under suspicious circumstances.
The deceased has been identified as Billal Uddin, a resident of Kathaltali Borobari area in Sribhumi district of Assam. According to family sources, Billal had arrived in Laxminagar on April 5 along with his mother to attend a relative’s wedding. The ceremony took place on April 6, the same day he suddenly went missing from the venue.
Despite extensive searches by family members and locals, no trace of the boy was found. On April 7, the family lodged a missing diary at Churaibari Police Station.
On Wednesday morning, local residents spotted a body floating in a water body located in a remote area and immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The incident has raised several serious questions. The family has alleged that it would have been nearly impossible for the specially-abled minor to reach such an inaccessible location on his own. They further claimed that visible injuries on his nose and mouth, along with signs of bleeding, suggest that he may have been murdered and later dumped in the water.
Demanding a fair and thorough investigation, the family has urged authorities to identify the culprits and ensure exemplary punishment. The incident has triggered widespread concern and fear among residents of the area.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and further details are awaited pending the post-mortem report.
