*Nagerjala Bus Owners and Labor Unions Threaten Indefinite Service Halt from October 5 Over Unresolved Issues*

Agartala, 27th September 2023: Nagerjala Bus owners and Labour Union today threatened to halt passenger services indefinitely starting October 5 if government failed to solve their problems.

In a press conference held at the Nagerjala stand today, Debbrata Sarkar, President of the South Tripura Bus Owners Association, announced that bus owners and labor unions in Nagerjala and Battala stands are poised to halt passenger services indefinitely starting October 5.

This drastic measure comes in response to the persistent issues faced by the stands, which have not been mitigated despite multiple appeals to high-ranking officials including the Transport Minister, Transport Department Commissioner, West District Magistrate, West District Superintendent of Police, and other administrative authorities.

Sarkar said despite the presence of the Nagerjala stand, a significant number of vehicles continue to stop to pick up and drop off passengers, leaving the vehicles stationed there empty. This has resulted in substantial losses for bus owners and workers alike, making it increasingly difficult for owners to provide fair wages to their employees and sustain profitability.

Despite numerous discussions with the government, administration, and transport department, the issue persists and has even escalated over time. In light of this, Nagerjala bus owners and labor unions have set a deadline of October 5 for the resolution of these problems, failing which they have vowed to cease operations indefinitely. It is emphasized that the responsibility for any resulting traffic disruptions lies squarely with the government and administration, not with the bus drivers and owners.

Additionally, the associations have put forth two key demands: firstly, that bills for vehicles used in government operations be settled prior to the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, and secondly, that any undue administrative harassment of vehicle drivers and owners be promptly halted.
