National campaign for gender equality launched in Matabari block

Agartala, 23rd December 2025:   A strong message of awareness on gender equality and women’s rights resonated across Matabari RD Block as the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission organized the “National Campaign for Gender Equality.” The initiative aimed to prevent violence against women, promote female education, and establish equality and justice in society.

The key messages of the campaign urged people to say no to dowry, neither give nor take, emphasized that girls’ education must be prioritized, reminded everyone that preventing child labor is a shared responsibility, called for an end to child marriage, and highlighted the vision of safe women in a safe society. These slogans highlighted the urgent need for social reform and empowerment.

The campaign featured a special discussion session at the Matabari Block Conference Hall, attended by members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The session was inaugurated by Shilpi Das, Chairperson of the Matabari Panchayat Samiti. Distinguished guests included Arjit Pal (BDO, Matabari Block), Abhinandan Debnath (DMC), and Jayanta Riyan (BMC), among others.

Speakers emphasized the importance of women’s education, highlighted the harmful effects of child marriage and dowry, stressed the need to prevent violence against women, and underscored women’s empowerment through self-reliance.

The event generated enthusiasm among women participants. As recognition of positive contributions, several CSPs and five CLF groups were felicitated. A fair and exhibition followed, showcasing products crafted by SHG members. To further spread awareness, a street play was performed, drawing attention from all present.

Community members praised the initiative, noting its potential to bring positive change. The campaign sparked fresh discussions on women’s education, the eradication of child marriage, and the abolition of dowry practices issues central to building a more equitable society.
