National flag insult sparks outrage at Ichai Lalchhara

Date:

Agartala, 13th August 2026 : Widespread anger has erupted in Ichai Lalchhara under Kalachhara Block after allegations surfaced of gross disrespect to the national flag at the local panchayat office premises.

For the past two to three days, residents claim the Indian tricolour was seen hoisted upside down at the panchayat office, yet officials failed to take corrective action. Locals expressed sharp resentment, accusing the panchayat chief, secretary, and staff of negligence despite their daily presence at the office.

Eyewitnesses reported that the disturbing sight was first noticed by visitors and passersby, quickly spreading across the area and sparking heated debate.

According to the Flag Code of India, 2002, displaying the national flag in an inverted position is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, public insult of the national flag constitutes a punishable offence, carrying penalties of up to three years’ imprisonment, fines, or both.

The incident has raised serious questions about the role and responsibility of the Ichai Lalchhara panchayat authorities. Enraged residents have demanded strict administrative and legal action against those responsible for undermining the dignity of the national flag.
