Agartala, September 23, 2023: In a fervent address at the state convention of Tripura Tapashili Jati Sammanay Samiti, Politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar highlighted the increasing apprehension within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the growing strength of the opposition’s message ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sarkar asserted that mobilizing the people is paramount in their quest to remove the BJP from the opposition platform and protect the interests of the common people.
Sarkar contended that the BJP’s ascent to power in the 2023 assembly elections was facilitated by the division of votes. He emphasized that the Communist Party of India had consistently held the Dhanpur assembly constituency, attributing the BJP’s recent victory to voter suppression tactics.
Sarkar pointed out that, in the Buxnagar assembly constituency, a similar pattern emerged, with the ruling BJP securing an unusually large margin of victory due to restrictions on voting.
The veteran politician alleged that the BJP’s decision to curtail voting in these two assembly constituencies was rooted in a growing realization that the people’s trust in the party had waned. Sarkar accused the BJP leadership of orchestrating the by-elections in these constituencies as a charade to maintain their grip on power.
At the organized convention, CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury raised concerns about Agartala Pur Nigam Sampriti increasing wealth tax, a move that is expected to extend to other municipal corporations in the state. He warned that this would impact both urban and rural areas, underscoring the broader implications of such policy decisions.
The convention at Agartala Town Hall saw the participation of various leaders from the organization, shedding light on the mounting political tension in Tripura as the nation approaches the pivotal 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
