Agartala, 23rd February 2025:  Residents of NEC Colony under Jampuijla Khumlwng have alleged that they have been deprived of various government welfare schemes since the BJP-led coalition government assumed power in Tripura in 2018.

A total of 16 tribal families in the colony claim they have not received benefits under flagship schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Jal Jeevan Mission, and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, despite being below the poverty line and holding ration cards.

According to the affected families, no elected public representatives, including local MLAs, have visited the area since the 2018 assembly elections. This prolonged negligence has left them without essential amenities such as proper housing, safe drinking water, and basic infrastructure.

The residents voiced their anger on Sunday afternoon, demanding immediate government intervention to provide housing under PMAY, ensure access to clean drinking water, and repair the dilapidated roads in the colony.

Locals accused MDC Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma of failing to deliver on his promises of development in ADC areas despite his party being in government. They alleged that his administration’s record on development initiatives remains dismal, with little to no progress on the ground.

Now, the question remains whether the state government will heed the demands of NEC Colony’s residents or continue to overlook their grievances.
