Agartala, 2nd January 2025:   Despite the Social Welfare and Social Education Department organizing various programs throughout the year, there has been widespread criticism of the officials for neglecting their core responsibilities. Reports suggest that officials are more focused on luxury travels and entertainment activities, leaving the common people to suffer.

The latest complaint concerns the Baligaon Anganwadi Center under the Salema ICDS Project, which is plagued by various problems. On Thursday, locals voiced their grievances to the media, revealing that for almost a year, about twenty-five children at the center have been deprived of nutritious food.

One local resident stated, “Everything at the Anganwadi Center depends on Didi Moni. She cooks, feeds the children, and also provides them with education. But when she takes leave, the center closes, and the children are left without food and education.”

The situation has worsened recently as Didi Moni has been ill for the past five days, leading to the center’s closure. The Anganwadi center has two tube wells—one Mark II and one deep tube well—both of which are broken. As a result, water has to be brought from nearby houses to prepare food for the children.

Residents expressed their frustration, saying, “The department officials and local public representatives are aware of these issues, but no one is taking any action.” The lack of support from the Salema CDPO office has further exacerbated the situation, leaving the children deprived of nutritious food.

The local residents have called for urgent attention to address the problems at the Baligaon Anganwadi Center and ensure the well-being of the children.
