Agartala, 2nd January 2025:   The CRU conference, a significant event for medical representatives and commercial workers, is set to take place at Agartala Town Hall from January 9 to January 11. This marks the first time in 20 years that the conference is being hosted in Agartala city. More than 300 representatives from the North Eastern region will participate in the conference.

Addressing a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Thursday, the organization’s chairperson and advocate Purushottam Roy Barman highlighted the importance of the conference. “CRU is dedicated to addressing issues related to the interests of medical representatives and commercial workers,” he stated.

Barman expressed concerns about the increasing workload and the government’s attempts to repeal protective legislation such as the Self-Employed Promotion Act by passing the Labor Code Bill. “The burden of work on medical representatives is becoming unbearable, and the government is trying to remove the legal protections that exist to safeguard their livelihood,” he said.

One of the key demands to be raised at the upcoming conference is to ensure that the Labor Code Bill is not passed and to advocate for a reduction in medicine prices. “The cost of medicines has spiraled out of control, making it difficult for the common man to afford essential medications,” Barman emphasized. “We will strongly demand measures to reduce the price of medicines and lower the GST on life-saving medications.”

CRU Agartala District President Sudip Ghosh Chowdhury and other representatives were also present at the press conference. They stressed the urgent need to address the heavy workload imposed on workers, which is affecting their health. The organization also raised concerns about the continuous monitoring of workers using modern technology, leading to further stress and health issues.

The conference aims to bring these pressing issues to the government’s attention and seek solutions to improve the working conditions and well-being of medical representatives and commercial workers.
