Agartala, 8th May 2026: The centuries-old ponds Ramsagar and Mahendrasagar in Khilpara village, once vital water sources during the Rajanya era, have now fallen into alarming neglect. Once central to daily life, these heritage water bodies have deteriorated into dumping grounds, surrounded by filth, foul odor, and unhygienic conditions, rendering them unusable for residents.
Local villagers allege that despite repeated appeals for renovation, authorities have failed to take any meaningful steps. The dilapidated state of these historic ponds has sparked widespread anger and raised serious questions about administrative indifference. Residents ask why such negligence has been allowed to persist for years, eroding the village’s cultural heritage.
The situation has become more worrying as stagnant dirty water and accumulated garbage have led to a surge in mosquitoes and flies. Villagers fear that without urgent cleaning and restoration, the area could face outbreaks of dengue, malaria, and other infectious diseases.
Community members stress that Khilpara’s heritage ponds are now not only facing an existential crisis but also posing a grave public health risk. Locals are demanding immediate cleaning and renovation to preserve history and protect health.
