New 85-Member AIDWA State Committee Announced After Two-Day Conference

Agartala, 14th December 2025: The 21st State Conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) began today. Although the conference was initially scheduled to start with a public rally at Orient Chowmuhani in the state capital, permission was denied by the administration. As a result, the conference commenced with a public meeting at the Agartala Town Hall premises.

The two-day conference featured detailed discussions on organisational matters, the prevailing political situation, and several other important issues. Deliberations were also held on the future course of action and programmes of the organisation. The conference concluded on Sunday evening.

During the conference, a new State Committee of AIDWA was formed. In accordance with the directives of the Central Committee, an 85-member State Committee was constituted this time. The committee includes a President, a Secretary, along with four Vice-Presidents and four Joint Secretaries. Brinda Debbarma and Swapna Dutta were elected as the new President and Secretary respectively, while Krishna Dey was appointed as Treasurer.

Speaking to the media after the conference, Secretary Swapna Dutta stated that the previous State Committee consisted of 97 members, but following the Central Committee’s instructions, the new committee has been reduced to 85 members. Among them, 19 are new faces. The committee includes 22 members from the tribal community, 13 from the Scheduled Castes, 4 from minority communities, and 11 from the Other Backward Classes. An Editorial Committee comprising 23 members has also been formed.

Brinda Debbarma has been elected as the new President, while Swapna Dutta has been re-elected as Secretary. During the conference, 30 delegates took part in discussions on the editorial report.

Extensive discussions were held on strengthening the organisation in rural areas and on strategies to overcome obstacles and involve more women in the movement in the coming days.
